Star Citizen Hits Kickstarter Goal

There's just something about videogames and Kickstarter. Two weeks ago, Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts asked gamers to help fund his new space odyssey, Star Citizen. The project's early momentum stalled, and it plateaued at $1.34 million on the official Star Citizen site. Over the weekend, Roberts also decided to sample the Kickstarter waters, and kick start it did. Star Citizen hit its $500,000 goal in no time, and with 26 days left, it appears Kickstarter will help ensure Star Citizen becomes a reality.
Overall, Roberts is seeking crowdfunding of $2 million for Star Citizen. He projects that the ambitious space sim will actually cost anywhere from $12 million to $14 million to create, and Roberts says private investors are ready to kick in the remainder if the crowdfunding is successful.

According to the Star Citizen funding site, the two funding sources will be synced up on the official page once the Kickstarter hits its goal, so we expect to see that $1.3 million bumped to $1.8 million and counting soon. In other words, Star Citizen has nearly hit its $2 million goal.

If you're interested in chipping in, check out the official Star Citizen site or the Star Citizen Kickstarter.
